Most fantastic events usually start out with a simple email like this one from Andrew Murray… “When: Occurs every day effective 8/26/2010 until 8/30/2010 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada). Where: Ludington, Michigan *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Hi Andy Klevorn, Jim Beckstrom, Joe Sanders, Jeff Betz and Dave MacLean (current Northern Michigan – NORMI – Team) (NorCal riders are also copied here) Mark your calendars (just “accept” this invitation). This is the final selection of dates for the West by Midwest Invitational Mtn Bike Challenge. I picked this weekend in order to avoid some of your local events in the hope that more NORMI riders could make it and also to do it during a weekend where the Ludington Vacationers are still in town and going strong… Hope y’all can make it! Email me with any questions. I have 4 confirmed NORCAL riders so far, including Pete Mathews, Rob Mathews, Brian McGarry, and myself. Tentatively, I’m thinking the format for Race Day (the last or second-to-last day of our trip) should be to essentially have a team event wherein we both have the same number of official riders on each team and the best combined time on the course of your choice wins the event. So if we come with 10 riders, which we may, you’ll need to scrape together 10 riders also. ” There’s a permanent link over to the left to this post, where I’ll update items from time to time, and above you will find a simple forum for discussion. I’ll see if I can dredge up some images of the biking to be had around the area, but there’s a few videos below. Here are a few videos from the Big M area, where the “event” will likely be held.
Bring your lights, these trails are a mile down the road from Murray’s cottage. I’m thinking there ought to be a 6 pack night time trail event thrown in for good measure… ![]() Andy at the start of Iceman 2009 There I am, lined up at the start of wave 5. The Iceman is a great event and anyone that bikes in the Midwest should put it on their list of races to attend, whether you’re a casual rider or racer. It’s a fast and fun course, and a great celebration of cycle-ry at the end in Traverse City. For a YouTube video of this year’s start click here. It looks like I’ve finally got a couple of willing partners to help me knock running a marathon off my bucket list. 2010 shall be deemed the year of the Asics. Luckily both the athletes have signed up for Ironman competitions and have to run a marathon for training. So I’m only a third as nutty as those two. |
